The whimsical, neon-green soda from the Plants vs. Zombies franchise — known as “Brain Ooze” — has taken a grim turn as health authorities confirm that 33 consumers have died after ingesting the beverage.

Originally released as a promotional tie-in for Plants VS Zombies, the drink was intended to be “fun, fizzy, and mildly radioactive.” Reports now suggest that certain cans were tainted with a mysterious compound referred to only as “Zombium-X.”

One victim, local streamer @DabShrimp420, reportedly muttered “I feel the garden...” before collapsing midstream. His fans thought it was a bit. It wasn’t.

EA Games has issued a statement denying involvement, stating, “We only sold the rights. We didn’t brew the goo.” The actual manufacturer, BrainCorp Beverage Labs, is currently being investigated for crimes ranging from negligent distribution to “advanced fictional toxicology.”

Authorities urge citizens to avoid any glowing green liquid, regardless of how “game-accurate” it appears. Especially if it says “tastes like brains” on the label.
